Can Work Really Be Fun?
Yo MotivatEM Squad! π
You know what's crazy? How easily we can drift away or complain about things we once prayed for. This week, while navigating through less clinical tasks during my admin rotation, I caught myself yearning for the excitement of what I love - clinical medicine. Whenever I start to feel less productive or satisfied with work I binge my favorite YouTuber/Productivity guru, Ali Abdaal. Something I stumbled upon that really resonated with me is reintroducing "play" into our work routine. Along the way, work started feeling more like a burden with thoughts like "Ugh, I have to do this," and I lost my sense of curiosity. Something Ali said struck a chord with me: Keep questioning, "What would this look like if it were fun?" I found that to be a very interesting question, as I rarely think about making work enjoyable, but why not have both? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this!
π‘ Productivity/Study Hacks
One cool study hack I've been using is ChatGPTβs image generator to create memorable pictures for learning. For instance, imagine a rock (Roc-) eating macaroni (-Uronium) in a bowl labeled "1 mg" (1 mg/kg) with a "60s" tattoo (60 second onset of action) for RSI dosing of Rocuronium. The very weird but memorable picture is below π While I do love resources like picmonic, pixorize, and sketchy, ChatGPT lets you get creative without limits. This is particularly beneficial if you struggle to visualize independently. Let your imagination soar! π
π Books I'm Reading
The new book Iβm diving into is "The Millionaire Fastlane." Yeah, the title might make you cringe (again, lol), but it offers a fresh take on building wealth. It's not about pinching pennies or living like a broke college student until you're 65 and can finally retire lol. You can in fact have that artisan latte and still be able to make it π€« P.S. I'm a slow reader, so it'll take me a while to get through it. But hey, I'll share all the cool stuff I pick up along the way this week!
πΆ Study Playlist Recs
Lately, I've been really into this cool summer lofi hip hop playlist (It seems that Simpson-themed artwork is super popular these days lol). Check It Out!
π Dad Jokes
What if we kept a record of laughter in a medical chart? Nah, forget it β it'd be a dad-a-base!
π¬ Quote of the Week
"It's so much more effective to simply take things as they present themselves, to live in the moment (like there's another moment you could live in), and solve issues and items as they arise, than to constantly expect. It's not that I'm anti-planning (I most certainly am not), but the stone-cold attachment to the plan (and all the expectation therein) is a little like falling out of a rowboat and continuing to row even though you have no oars and no boat under you anymore. Your plan (and image) of how this should have gone is no longer relevant but you still struggle to reconcile the space between your expectations and reality." - Gary Bishop
Remember, the act of planning isnβt under fire here; itβs that iron grip on expectations that clips our wings mid-flight.
